ILL and Requests

To assist patrons to get that one book they can’t find at their own libraries, libraries have developed at least two ways to obtain that book. The first way is to request it from another library within your library system. Our system, the Upper Hudson Library System, has developed a computer catalog which allows us to see what all twenty-nine libraries in Albany and Rensselaer County own. Some libraries may not let others borrow new DVDs or new books, but the majority do allow it. We may also get books through the NYS Library.

The second way allows a library staff member to request an item from outside the system through a database called Worldcat, to which we subscribe. Worldcat allows us to check all over the United States and Canada and other English speaking countries, although the majority of books are here in the USA. So if you don’t find your book, please ask at the Reference Desk! Once requested, please don't forget to pick up your items!
