Database Highlight--Business and Company Resource Center

We read a lot about how access to electronic information empowers small business and levels the playing field. But finding accurate, authoritative, and focused business information can be daunting, given the availability of enormous quantities of sources in the Internet.

The East Greenbush Community Library has a solution for you--a source of business information delivered right to your desktop that is dynamic, accurate, and up-to-date.

Business and Company Resource Center is a database available through the library's website. The database provides business, company, and industry content in the following areas:

  • Periodical articles, news articles, and press releases
  • Detailed information on domestic and international companies and associations
  • Company financials and earning estimates
  • Investment reports
  • Corporate chronologies and company histories
  • Industry overviews ... and much more.
All of the information contained in the database is full-text, which enables you to bring the entire content of the article or report into your home or workplace.

How can you access this powerful information source? Simply go to the library's reference/research page and click on "Business" then click on Business and Company Resource Center. For help using this database, call the Reference Desk at 477-7476, ext. 102.

Database Highlight--EBSCO MasterFILE Select

Imagine if you had access to enormous quantities of articles from magazines, journals and newspapers, all from your home computer – and only a mouse click away.

You do! The East Greenbush Community Library provides access to a number of databases
that you can use at home, for free, via the library’s website. This month, we will highlight one - EBSCO Master FILE Select.

This database digitizes articles from over 2,000 magazines and journals in a wide spectrum of subject areas. It allows you to search this enormous digital library by topic. It then allows you to access, read, and print out articles from your home computer.

Say your daughter has to write a research paper on any current topic, or you want to search consumer magazines for timely reviews of electronic products. EBSCO MasterFILE Select has it all – and it’s current, authoritative, and reliable.

So, why not just use Google? Because the content of EBSCO MasterFILE Select is unique to that database and cannot be found on Internet search engines like Google!

How can you bring this information power (as well as other useful databases) into your home? Go to the library's research/reference page. When you choose your database, you will be prompted to enter your library card number. Do that, and the world is at your fingertips! Available on our computers at the library as well.

For help using your library databases, call the Reference Desk at 477-7476, ext. 102.
